Ashiatsu Massage In the Japanese language “Ashi” translates to foot and “Atsu” into pressure. Ashiatsu is a barefoot massage technique in which the therapist delivers deep, broad, consistent pressure while utilizing their feet and body weight. Working with gravity instead of against it, Ashiatsu therapists are able to provide an effective therapeutic massage without causing pain or discomfort to the receiving client. Oil is applied to the clients body making this deep therapeutic massage fluid and relaxing. Parallel bars are used above the massage table for balance, support and client safety.

The cups can also be used as a massage tool where they are continually gliding and sliding along your body. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

Deep Tissue/Deep Pressure

Deep Tissue/Deep Pressure Deep tissue massage seeks to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow deep strokes on any contracted areas. Your therapist will apply deep pressure on the contracted areas by either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. It is called deep tissue because it also focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It can help reduce pain, increase range of motion, relieve muscle spasms and improve circulation.

Reflexology Foot Massage

Reflexology & Foot Massage Derived from ancient cultures' study of meridians or energy channels, the practice of reflexology stimulates the complex pathways that wind throughout the body. Thus, a foot reflexology massage doesn't simply interact with the soft tissues of the feet. Instead, the practitioner applies various learned techniques to treat the reflex points that connect the foot to other body parts, whether they be internal organs, bones, or body systems. By comparison, a foot massage proves much more direct and less complex. While several massage traditions apply different approaches to a foot massage, the concept remains much the same: apply pressure to relieve soft tissues on and around the foot. This can mean massaging tightly constricted muscles, relieving stagnant circulation, and otherwise providing relief to soreness and discomfort.

A Swedish massage focuses on overall relaxation and physical and mental wellness.  Swedish massage includes gliding, kneading, tapping, stretching, and cross-friction strokes. Combined, a licensed massage therapist uses these massage techniques to improve circulation, improve the flow of lymphatic fluid (a key component of the immune system) and relax muscles overall. This is a “soothe” massage not a “pressure” massage.
